Whiplash - What is whiplash
and symptoms?
Whiplash refers to the injury suffered after a
car accident that seems to cause pain around the neck. This type of injury is
responsible for causing stiffness in addition to tenderness and loss of
movement around the neck as well.
If you suffer whiplash, expect to experience
muscle spasms in addition to headaches and pain around the shoulders and arms.
The neck ligaments overstretch in a patient who suffered a whiplash injury.
Horrible Pain
The other name for whiplash is sprain. It might
seem a minor injury but can be responsible for some horrible pain after a car
accident. The symptoms associated with whiplash do not manifest immediately
after a car wreck, hence the importance of visiting a doctor as soon as
possible.
The symptoms might take between 6-12 hours to
manifest fully. The inflammation and bruising that the neck muscles suffer will
not always be evident in the immediate aftermath of the car accident.
